Throttle charging current instead of ON/OFF

Via the Tesla app, it is possible to change the charge current. This could also be done in Jedlix to optimise the smart charging session. I assume this is also possible on other vehicles

This would be a great feature, especially in scenario 3. I would like to charge during low tarif period, unless I get ‘free’ energy via the PV setup. Automatically and/or adjustable charge (6A-16A) depending on the expected output of the PV system.
That would be awesome!
(Great app by the way, wish I came across it sooner.)

Hi Johan,

Sounds interesting.
Can you help me with an example of a situation where you would like the charge power to be reduced instead of being turned off/on?

Cheers

There are a number of scenarios:
1. Suppose I need to charge 20kWh and I have all night (e.g. 10h duration), the charge current can be reduced to just reach my desired SoC on time. In this case, 8-9A would be OK, which is beneficial seen as the 'capacity tariff' that is planned in Belgium in Q3 2022.
2. Opposite, when the charge current is set too low, meaning I cannot reach my desired SoC, the current can be increased so to reach my SoC in time...
3. In general, by throttling the charge current, you can optimize the savings. Increase when energy is cheap and decrease when it is a bit more expensive. And since you have the info about my PV installation, you could try to follow the predicted PC production over the day (start at 6A, increase to 16A at noon, and then reduce again late afternoon). Kind of dynamic Load Shedding based on data ....

If you want to set up a test environment, feel free to reach out... I like this kind of playground ...
